Counsellor and welfare training

This three-week course in Oxford introduces counselling and other pastoral staff from overseas universities to student welfare systems at Oxford and in the UK. These systems are discussed in the context of student life in general, including admissions, accommodation, careers, disability, etc. By visiting several universities, delegates have an opportunity to learn about features of student welfare provision common across the UK higher education sector as well as practices distinctive to individual universities with their own ethos and structure.

The programme gives delegates an opportunity to share ideas and research findings on student welfare, learn about some examples of good practice at Oxford, and gain experience of UK culture.

The programme stems from our partnership with the Shanghai Universities Psychological Association, which brings together counselling and welfare departments from around 30 universities in the Greater Shanghai area. The first group of delegates, from 10 different universities in Shanghai, visited the UK during August and September 2016.
