First visiting student arrives

The first student to come to Oxford under the auspices of OPP's visiting student scheme arrives in the UK today. Anna (Huixian) Sun, an International Business student at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, will spend Michaelmas Term at Worcester College as a student of PPE. She has arrived a month before the beginning of term in order to take part in the September Seminar on Classics and English literature.

Medical and Student Welfare delegates arrive

Oxford Prospects Programmes is pleased to welcome two academic delegations to Oxford.

The first is a group of clinicians from the Norman Bethune Health Center and Jilin University, Shanghai. They are visiting for one week to take part in a workshop organised by OPP. The delegates will meet counterparts working at various Oxford University departments and in local hospitals, including the John Radcliffe and the Churchill. Among the speakers is Professor Jeremy Taylor, Director of Pre-Clinical Studies at Oxford University (pictured with the group at Oxford University's Medical Sciences Teaching Centre).

Looking China students leave for Guizhou

The first group of students selected by Oxford Prospects Programmes to participate in the Looking China project leave today for Guizhou Province.

Looking China is funded by Beijing Normal University and the Association for the International Communication of Chinese Culture. Under a partnership agreement with the Association, OPP is responsible for selecting UK students to participate each year. This year's theme is 'Charm, Ethnicity, Culture'.

Summer programme 2016

The student programme for summer 2016 is now fully subscribed. We will be welcoming unprecedented numbers of visitors to Oxford: nearly 250 students and visiting teachers in two groups during July and August.

New highlights for this programme include:

  • research seminars on the latest scientific advances made at Oxford University
  • a literature workshop
  • guest lectures from world experts in AI and entrepreneurship based at other universities
  • an Oxford river cruise on the Thames.

Old favourites that we are repeating this year include:

OPP hosts Tongji Vice President

Oxford Prospects Programmes today welcomed professor Xu Jianping, Vice President of Tongji University in Shanghai, and a small delegation of deans, on a one-day visit to Oxford.

Tongji will host this year's international conference of University Counselling Services in Shanghai. OPP has arranged for Alan Percy, the Head of the Counselling Service at Oxford University, to attend. This will be Mr Percy's second year at the conference, after OPP arranged for him to speak at last year's conference at Fudan University. Our work with both Fudan and Tongji follows a collaboration agreement between OPP and the Shanghai Association of University Counselling Services.

OPP processes visiting student applications

Oxford Prospects Programmes has embarked on an exciting collaboration with a number of Oxford colleges to extend access to their visiting student programmes.

Registered visiting students at Oxford University are full members of the University and attend classes and tutorials in exactly the same way as matriculated students. Many of the colleges run visiting student programmes to enable undergraduates to spend between one term and a whole academic year at Oxford. Visiting students come from several countries, most commonly the USA. Many colleges are keen to expand their visiting student programmes to include China but so far as we know no college has yet established a scheme to recruit Chinese students.
